A New Bed
Rachel loves music and loves to dance! I have taught her how to spin on her tip toes with her arms up like a ballerina. When she is at Nan’s house, she sometimes gets to watch “Angelina Ballerina,” which is a little cartoon about a ballerina mouse. We noticed recently that she can rest her ankle on the top of her crib as though it is a ballet bar! With Baby Sister about to come into our lives, we decided it might not be a bad idea to get a new bed for Rachel. We had been looking around for some time, but were never able to find something that fit what we wanted. One of the first things is that Rachel needed to be able to climb in and out of the bed by herself. Unfortunately, she is short and not able to get in and out of most toddler beds. Eventually, we decided to build one ourselves!
Scott put so much love into this little bed for Rachel. It all paid off when we put it together the other night. We trapped Rachel in her crib while we brought the pieces in to be assembled. As soon as she was “freed” from her crib, she ran to her new bed and climbed right in! She sat there smiling and laughing, which had me worried she was going to be too excited to sleep! It was time to get ready for bed but she was not willing to leave her bed for scriptures and prayer. We proceeded with our nightly routine with her sitting so well on the edge of her bed. After prayer, she promptly lay down and went to sleep! She slept all night long in her new bed and had to be woken up for church. Don’t be fooled…this is a learning process and that was just the first night. She has learned she can get out of bed and be quiet without getting caught. If she sees us, she knows we are going to tell her to go lay down, so without being told, she quickly lays down right where she is and closes her eyes! It has been fun to see her loving this new bed and worth every minute Scott put into it! (We apologize for a dark picture…we didn’t want to wake her up!)
